Summary
Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital are significantly expanding their fundamental and translational biomedical research programs relevant to children's and women's health. As part of this expansion, they seek an outstanding investigator, poised to become fully independent, with a background in neuroscience, neurology, cell biology, physiology, and/or a related field whose work has the potential to impact children's and/or women's health. An understanding of the molecular and neurocircuitry mechanisms related to feeding behaviors and metabolism is preferred, although not required. Experience in electrophysiology, in vivo recordings, genetics, chemogenetics, and optogenetics is also preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to scholarly activity, rigorous scientific investigation, creativity, and collaboration.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish his or her own independent, externally funded research program aligning with and complementing the ongoing research in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neurology; the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute; and other departments and sections as appropriate. She or he will collaborate with scientists, physicians, and physician-scientists from a range of disciplines throughout Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, the Texas Medical Center, as well as across the country. As the successful candidate grows his or her own laboratory, s/he will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees joining the lab. S/he will also hire other laboratory personnel (e.g., lab manager, data analyst, etc.) to ensure the success of his or her independent research program.
The successful candidate should be well-versed in conceptualizing and conducting hypothesis-driven investigations in his or her specific area of interest.
A Ph.D., M.D., MD,PhD, or equivalent degree in molecular genetics, neuroscience, neurology, or related field is required with an understanding of the molecular and neurocircuitry mechanisms underlying obesity and feeding behaviors preferred. External, peer-reviewed grant funding, while not required, is a plus.
